The Best Old Navy Maternity Clothes & the Ones You Shouldn’t Waste Your Money on!

Fairly early on in my pregnancy, around the start of my third trimester, my clothes started getting tight, the baby was sitting low in my pelvis, and I’m a person who already carries my weight in my belly, styles these days lean towards high-waisted, so I outgrew many of my regular clothes early on. Thus began my hunt for clothes! I would need casual pieces, work clothes, gym clothes, and maybe even a few nicer outfits, with that in mind, I’ve gotten clothes from Amazon, Target, Old Navy, StitchFix, Seraphine, Summer Mae, Pink Blush, Angel Maternity, Mother Bee Maternity, Fabletics, Madewell, Etsy … I’m sure I’m forgetting some more that I’ve tried, but I’m reviewing them all!!

Totally Recommend!

Work Pants: Old Navy’s Full Panel Pixie Ankle Pants don’t look like anything formal on their website, but they pair really nicely with a blouse (and blazer if you want to go for a suit-look) for an in-office or in court look that’s comfortable, bump-friendly, and doesn’t break the bank.

This is my top-recommended product from Old Navy, they’re less than $50 and have fit well since I was in my second trimester.

Jeans: These Full Panel Rockstar Super Skinny Cut-Off jeans certainly aren’t you mother’s maternity wear, I actually feel human and like I can make a cute outfit out of them.

I’ve really enjoyed my Full-Panel O.G. Straight Ripped Jeans – Kyle says they gave me total mom-butt when i started wearing them in my 2nd trimester – but lord were they comfortable! They hold up much better in my 3rd trimester, he still calls them mom jeans, but like i told him “i’m about to be a mom!”

You Get What You Pay For

Athleisure:

I previously wore exclusively highwaist leggings, so these very quickly became something I couldn’t fit into. I tried two pairs of Old Navy maternity leggings and while they were fine, they were just that, you get what you pay for, I suppose (these are usually on sale for <$15, often <$10!). They didn’t stretch as much, and the maternal quality just wasn’t what I’ve become used to with my nicer brands, the pockets are an awkward size or shape and don’t hold an iPhone that well, and if I had waited until my third trimester and would only be wearing them for a few weeks, it would have been fine, but I needed them around Week 14.

For pure lounging, I enjoyed my Old Navy Maternity Rollover-Waist StretchTech Cargo Pants! I have them in black and they’re great for light-weight joggers for running errands or lounging, but I wouldn’t wear them for working out.

I’d Skip It

Denim Shorts: Skip Old Navy’s Maternity Full Panel O.G. Straight Roll-Cuffed Jean Short. For $33, I’d expect better quality, the denim was thick and the panel wasn’t nearly as nice as their jeans’ panel. They’ve got a 5” inseam, which doesn’t sound long, but on this shorty, they felt super long. If you’re a fan of denim shorts, and don’t mind the cost because you’ll wear them let’s say all summer and/or through multiple pregnancies, i definitely recommend these Over-the-Belly Denim Shorts in Lavista Wash by Madewell!! Nothing makes me feel more human than when real brands make clothes for soon-to-be-mamas! ((but size up!))

I was SO EXCITED for these Maternity Side-Panel slouchy Jean Short Overalls from Old Navy thinking “finally! Pregnancy is the time to look cute in overalls, I’ll look so 90s doing house projects, it’ll be awesome!!” I was wrong. I held on to these because I kept thinking, “i’m just not pregnant enough yet, when I have a real belly it’ll look right!” Nope, I’ve tried them on every single month. Maybe it’s because I’m short, or have never looked right in overalls, or what, but these were not right for me.

I bought this Maternity Slub-Knit Bodycon Dress from Old Navy that I literally haven’t even worn yet. I thought “my style might change once I’m pregnant! I’ll like tight things that show off my belly!” Which honestly, I do. I just still haven’t worn this one. It was <$20 when I bought it and that was still a waste.

Old Navy sizing is just SO HARD! I snagged this 4-Piece Essentials Set which included a bodycon dress, tank top, t-shirt, and leggings, all cotton and all in black thinking they’d just be good basics. I’m usually an XS in Old Navy and these were sooooo tiny, I don’t think i could even pull the shirt down a little comfortably. I also realized that plain cotton would not be my friend this pregnancy. I forgot to return it and gave it to a friend who’s much smaller than I am, so hopefully she finds it to be more comfortable. Maybe if I’d gotten the right size, it would have been better, but I’ve found loungewear that I much prefer.

Have you tried Old Navy’s Maternity line? I was disappointed at how little there was in-store at Old Navy, it seems like you can’t buy ANY maternity clothes in store these days, we’re relegated to over-buying on line and trying to slug through pregnancy brain to remember to return the stuff that’s the wrong size! Hopefully this review helps you decide what to buy!
